Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, practical therapy in which the client is encouraged to focus on their goals and create new behaviours and ways of thinking which reduce anxiety and enhance well-being. It is a collaborative process in which I will help you learn how to use your brain to your advantage.
Many of us have years of unhelpful thinking styles and anxiety we need to unlearn in order to reach our full potential and the hypnotic state brings together the conscious, rational part of your brain and the unconscious, instinctive part of your brain to facilitate positive change in a completely safe and natural way.
Hypnosis is totally safe and there is no danger that you will get ‘stuck’. It is a completely natural state of focused attention, much like daydreaming which can be hugely beneficial for anxiety and stress related issues. We all enter this state many times throughout the day and when we are in this relaxed state, our conscious mind is less active so it is easier for us tap into our inner resources, override conscious resistance and create new, more beneficial thoughts and beliefs.
No. You will remain in control the whole time and you will not do, or say anything outside of your control. It’s a completely natural state we all go in and out of many times a day and it is unlikely you will say anything whilst in this daydream like state.
Most people find the relaxed, daydream like state an enjoyable experience which leaves them feeling positive and calm.
Hypnosis can be experienced in varying depths and some people will, often initially, just experience a feeling of relaxation. They may not even think they have experienced hypnosis, however this state of relaxed focused attention is still hugely beneficial and can facilitate positive change.
As the treatment progresses you may find that you experience a deeper level of relaxation, which you are able to enter into more quickly. When the brain is in this deeply relaxed state it is most receptive to positive suggestions.
The length of treatment time varies from person to person, and is guided by the changes you make outside of our sessions. A lot of people will start to notice improvements after just a few sessions, but for more deep rooted anxiety issues, it can take longer. Specific phobias can take as little as 3 sessions. I usually recommend sessions take place either weekly or fortnightly to begin with as it can take the brain a few days to fully process everything from our session and momentum can be lost if sessions are too spaced out. People often then choose to come for ‘maintenance’ sessions as part of their own well-being practice.
It’s important to be aware that hypnotherapy is not an instant, miracle cure and like everything in life, the desire and motivation to change has to be there in order for change to take place.
